Paper shavings on the counter. A series of hit and miss spots located on top of the can. Places where the can should have fit into the grove but somehow could not manage. Finally, getting the can open and then attempting to get it out/off with the lovely assistance of a fork or other sharp object. Opening a can of something can be the biggest pain in the world if you do not have a good can opener. I have reviewed an Oxo GoodGrips Can Opener that worked just lovely, but I think the Fissler Magic Smooth-Edge Can Opener might just be a little bit better.
Based out of Germany, Fissler was started by Carl Philipp Fissler back in 1845. With several different lines of cookware, Fissler is modernizing their products as each new year comes. They have a line of cutlery, knives, cookware, pressure cookers, fryers, and kitchen accessories. For more about this German company, read my review of the Fissler Blue Point Pressure Cooker from earlier this week. The Fissler Magic Smooth-Edge Can Opener is a very modern and unique looking can opener. With its sleek design, you will find that not only is it easy to store, but it is also a great look for a can opener. Many can openers are big, bulky, and unattractive. Nevertheless, this Fissler Can opener has a brushed stainless steel finish while the can opener itself is also made of stainless steel, which ensures that the can opener will stay sharp for a long time. There are mirrored loops located on the side of the can opener for easy hanging in your kitchen. Fissler backs this kitchen gadget with a lifetime warranty against any defects. The Magic Can Opener can be washed by hand, but is also dishwasher safe for convenience.
I really enjoyed using and storing the Fissler Magic Can Opener. Parts about the can opener that I particularly liked how the turning knob is ergonomically designed and easy, the look of the can opener in general, and the smooth edges that it created while cutting the top off the can. Storing the can opener was even better. Everyone has a drawer that is nothing but mixed up utensils for cooking. Well, if you put your can opener in that drawer, it can be hard to close the drawer from time to time. However, with this Fissler Can Opener, you need not worry about it fitting or not, since it is no bigger than two steak knives. If anything, this can opener is the most convenient can opener I have ever tried. With its sleek design and simplistic operation, this can opener is so easy to use.
Now, you know how for everything good there is always something bad? Well, here is the good: the Fissler Magic Smooth-Edge Can Opener is a fantastic product. The bad: It costs about $35 USD (at Amazon.com). Now, I know that is a lot of money for a can opener...what am I saying? It is a ridiculous amount for a can opener! Unless you have that kind of luxury where money is not an issue, then I would suggest another can opener, simply because of the price. Unless you open many cans, I do not feel as if this would be worth your money at a cost over $30 USD. Yes, it is a great product. But really, you are the one who has to decide whether you have $35 to drop on a manual can opener. If you do though, you should really be satisfied with this manual can opener that is designed and built very well. This is another excellent Fissler product. Update: We have been told by Fissler that this can opener can currently be found for $25 at CentralChef.com, which is much more reasonable.
