Have you ever wished for an easier way to poach eggs without putting them in direct contact with boiling water? Personally, I think the water takes away from the taste of the egg as do many others. To my pleasure, by using the Fusion Brands Poachpod, you can make healthy poached eggs without the blandness of an egg that has been poached directly in water. The Poachpods not only make a better poached egg, but it also makes cleaning up a breeze with its nonstick molding that is dishwasher safe.
Fusion Brands is known for creating products with the customers in mind. They have an assortment of different silicone products such as lacing tools, the Lovehandle (a review on it is coming soon), the Poachpod, a reusable cup cooley, and the previously reviewed Fingertongs. Fusion Brands also has the Ice Orb, which freezes ice but in the middle of the cup so your drink can stay cool without being watered down by melted ice. This company is all for the new and interesting ideas.
The Fusion Brands Poachpods is probably the simplest gadget I have tested thus far during my tenure writing for Foodstruments. Two Poachpods are included with each package and they are made of 100% FDA-approved silicone and are non-stick, although Fusion Brands still recommends oiling each pod. While made of silicone, the Poachpods are quite flexible, which makes it easy for flipping the poached egg out of the pod. One of the Poachpods is a lighter shade of green and the other a darker shade of green, which looks good and makes it nice for distinguishing between the two. Slots in the sides of these silicone pods allow you to pick them up with a fork out of the boiling water. These slots can also be used for sliding the Poachpod over any of the prongs in a dishwasher. The dimensions for an individual Fusion Brands pod are about three inches by one-and-a-half inches deep. Making for an easy cleanup, the Fusion Brands Poachpods are dishwasher safe.
While I do not often prepare poached eggs, I feel as though the Poachpods from Fusion Brands worked out well and I enjoyed using them. Using the Poachpods was handy for preparing a tasty poached egg and then cleanup afterwards was very easy. While designed for poaching eggs, you can also put other foods in them as well such as cake batter. Fusion Brands mentioned that you can effectively just use the Poachpods as a cupcake mold by setting each Poachpod on a normal cupcake baking tray and then filling it with the batter and baking. Just make sure that you use a little olive oil or some kind of oil spray. Even though they are made of silicone, the egg will stick to the Poachpod without oil.
Overall, this was a good product. Whether or not you will use the Fusion Brands Poachpods is dependent on your lifestyle. Certainly if you are looking for a healthier way to make your eggs but still want them to have great flavor, the Fusion Brands Poachpods are perfect for your needs. For only $8 at Amazon.com, if you poach eggs quite often or want to for a healthier meal, you might want to consider purchasing them. Certainly using the Poachpod makes for an easier process than poaching the egg directly in water or by setting up saucers or ramekins in a saucepan with water and then having to spoon out the egg afterwards.
